Hey all,

I'm getting ready to move my gardening indoors. Mainly, I'd like to successfully grow kitchen herbs inside for the winter.

A bit about my house: my sunniest window is in the kitchen, and while it's pretty sunny, plants grow really leggy there even in the spring and summer. I figure I'll need some kind of grow light, but I'm wondering what's the minimum that'll actually work?

Anybody have experience with this and/or references for light shopping?

I had strawberries in a pot last year. They didn't fruit. Autumn came, and they died. I didn't do anything special to winter them over, and the pot has been sitting on my front porch, partially sheltered from wind and snow, all winter.

Think there's any chance of them coming back? Or are they totally dead?

So after some research, I've decided to go with one Square Foot Garden box, as well as several containers, as I have them. A couple questions for my gardening friends:

1. Where do you go to find wood or plastic that people don't want, for use as SFG materials? I'm willing to buy new lumber, but it'd be great to start from a place of recycling instead.

2. Anyone have extra compost they're looking to get rid of?

Hi, all! Thanks so much for your advice on this post, rest assured that I will probably be poking some of you a lot more about it.

But for now, I have another general question: do people share seeds around that they like or that they harvested from previous years' gardens? I'm happy to go to Pemberton and buy some of their pretty pretty seeds, but I'd also love to get some seeds from things you liked and that did well for you - favor to be returned next year!

Again, any help much appreciated.
