Cleanse.

This may be of interest to nobody but me, but I began a two-week cleanse today that I'd like to chronicle, just to see how I'm feeling, how different foods affect me, and what these crazy herbs are doing to my body.

I'm using Supreme Cleanse, an herbal program used and recommended by [livejournal.com profile] amber_phoenix. It mainly involves an unpleasant-tasting powder and several unpleasant-tasting drops, all added to warm water and ingested at various points throughout the day.

To maximize the benefits, one is meant to avoid and favor certain foods as well. So for two weeks, I'll be giving up the obvious coffee, chocolate, alcohol and refined sugar, as well as red meat (not too difficult), breads (ack!), eggs, and most dairy products - keeping yogurt and raw cheeses. Perhaps in the last few days I'll cut out the dairy as well, just to see how I feel.

Today I've eaten:

A bowl of yogurt with fresh green apple, honey, and cinnamon.
A cup of green tea. (Recommended strongly by the cleanse - I don't have to give up caffeine entirely!)
An Omega-3 flax snacky bar, which the herbal company sent me for free.

Right now I feel:

Light, in several ways: a trifle light-headed, but pleasantly so, and already slightly...er...cleared in the bowels.

Hungry. (Lunch soon.)

A little bit high, a little bit nauseated. (Slightly buzzy head, slight euphoria, as from cold medicine.)

Good luck! I did a master cleanse (lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water) for most of last week and felt better than I had in ages. Lost a few pounds too....unfortunately those came right back as soon as I hit the woods for the bachelor party.

I'm having trouble eating meat and sugar now...I find I just don't want it anymore. Dairy too.

lemon juice and all of those other things and that's it? for most of the week? how's that work?

I find I suck at fasting, get nauseated very quickly - but am looking into doing a few days of radically different food intake, just to see how that is. I'd have to be able to eat *something* at most any point, though, or my body rebels. Even if the something is a carrot.

I'm a lousy faster as well. I need to have foods to keep me going - I believe I have a rather fast metabolism, and have always had a healthy appetite. Fasting just makes me sick, and I don't think it's really all that good for you. Besides, people who have done such things throughout the ages, especially as a spiritual pursuit, have generally done it during a time of quiet contemplation - not while trying to work the usual insane Western schedule.

Not only am I lousy faster, but I get better the slower I am.

I always had problems with fasting, but this one went incredibly well. No hunger pangs after the first day (I let myself have four strawberries that first day when I was struggling most). Sometimes it's good to ease into it, a day of just tea and fruit, or perhaps a modified diet with carrots and hummus. I'm sure you'll find something that works for you!

I'll be interested to see how it goes. I've been unmotivated to quit caffeine, but lately it's seeming like more and more of a good idea. Perhaps I can join you in getting rid of caffeine, chocolate (not hard), refined sugar, and fewer breads (really really hard).

Curious

That will be very curious indeed. I have no issues with coffee and dairy and alcohol and even red meat. Hmm... does this mean I can eat sashimi for two weeks???

You can when you eat with me!

Are you thinking of a sympathy cleanse? :)

I just might. Could also be good for me.
