The melancholy Jaques

If you were to pick a scene in As You Like It to audition people for the part of Jaques, what would you pick? I kind of want to avoid his big monologues ("All the world's a stage" especially).

I haven't seen the audition rules, so I don't know if that is limited to plays.
For lamentation, there's Sebastian's confession from "Comes the Inquisitor", Londo's silliloquy [sic] from "In the Beginning" (both B5).
For nihilism, there's the opening monologue from "Trainspotting" or any monologue from "Fight Club".

I thiiiink you misunderstood my question. I need a scene from the play, for audition sides. ;)

Oh! That's different! Never mind.
"A fool in the forest" monologue works, then. Maybe something from Act IV.

Act 2 scene 7, one of the parts where he's talking about meeting Touchstone! It's a weird moment, but it ought to show off Jaques both excited enough to use exclamation marks and still being "the melancholy Jaques."

It's a good choice, and I've been looking at it, both for the Duke and for Jaques, to see their relationship, which I believe is important to the play. It's tough, though, as it's full of hard language and monologues. It's actually the scene in the play I have the most trouble wrapping my head around.

But definitely considering it. Also, the scene with him and Orlando. "I do desire that we may be better strangers." Hee.

Without the script in my hand, I was going to suggest the Orlando scene where J is taking O to task for pinning things to trees.

tell the hopefuls that the part is really Jacques Cousteau and could they please wear this red knit cap and read this bit about the playful dance of the triggerfish?

Have I told you *today* that I adore you?
