Come see the Verdi Requiem!
May. 9th, 2011 12:14 pmEveryone, this concert is going to be absolutely epic, delicious, gorgeous fun.
Verdi's Requiem is the only Requiem mass I've ever heard that sounds like grand opera. There will be eight trumpets, I think two sets of timpani, fantastic soloists including Yeghishe Manucharyan of Elijah fame, and of course, our fabulous choir. All in Sanders Theatre, one of the most wonderful spaces in the Boston area to sing.
Tickets range from $20 to $50, and student rates are available. Get your tickets in advance and avoid the will call line! Come on out this Saturday the 14th at 8pm and be moved. Pre-concert lecture at 7p by former Boston Globe music critic Richard Dyer.

Date: 2011-05-09 09:21 pm (UTC)A bunch of us did get to go see on May 1 to hear the Handel and Haydn Society's performance of several pieces at the Symphony Hall, ending with the Requiem Mass, which I have performed, but never heard live, and they really nailed it. I had tears in my eyes for most of the piece, from beginning to end, it was one of the peak musical experiences in my life.
Wish I could be there, I am sure it will be exquisite, and break a leg!
