[livejournal.com profile] hahathor recently shared with me an article called Five Geek Social Fallacies. It got me thinking, and so I wrote an article outlining proposed Poly Social Fallacies. It turned into a monster over 1500 words, so I'll be publishing it in two parts.

Here's Part 1.

It may be too late to toss in a topic idea, but I have one - Women Are Not Creepy. Seems like in the poly circles, it's more acceptable for women to be really heavy-handed, because they're just inherently Not Creepy. Unfortunately this has the effect of making those who *do* find them creepy feel guilty. I had a mild issue with one woman who would often touch without permission. Once, she startled me with an unexpected touch, and only missed getting an elbow in the ribs because she wasn't standing where I thought she was standing. I had no idea who it was touching me until I saw her, and then of course I felt massively guilty about nearly causing her harm, because she was a *woman*, and I couldn't have been feeling that my person was violated by a woman. But what gave her permission to touch me? On the plus side, she never touched (or even really spoke to) me again.

(Also, I love these articles. Don't know if I've mentioned. They're fantastic!)
