As some of you know, I've recently entered my second year of a four-year training in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method. As part of my training, I will be seeing several practice clients over the next two years. I'm hoping you can help me find some of them.
What does being a practice client entail?
You will spend a little under an hour with me at a time. Sessions take place fully clothed. The client lies face-up on a massage table, and I interact with you using a combination of gentle, non-invasive touch and talk. In these simplified sessions, the main goal will be to heighten your awareness of your body to increase ease and relaxation. While emotions may come up during the session, we will not be delving into them during these practice sessions. You may stop the session at any time if anything is uncomfortable.
Is there a fee?
The sessions are free during the next two years. In my fourth year, I will begin charging reduced rates as a Rubenfeld intern.
Who can be a practice client?
You must not be someone who knows me well - that is, most of you. However, you can refer your friends to me by forwarding this message along, if you know someone who might be interested.
You must not have any serious or chronic physical or mental health issues: we are not yet in the point in the training where we're equipped to handle it.
You may be just about anyone else!
What if I'm disqualified, but still very interested?
My gentle, highly capable friend and colleague Matt Ryan is also studying the Method, and needs practice clients. If you're interested in seeing him, email him.
How do I get in touch with you?
Comment here, or email me! I will contact you with further information immediately.
Thanks!

Date: 2009-06-08 10:44 pm (UTC)So, the two relevant questions are as follows:
1. Do you have any serious or chronic physical conditions? Describe.
2. Have you every been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons or have a diagnosis
of a major mental health issue?
You don't have to answer here, of course! But seeing them may help you figure out the scope we're talking about.

Date: 2009-06-11 01:49 pm (UTC)Perhaps.
Date: 2009-06-10 06:27 pm (UTC)I'm a long time massage client and am always willing to experiment with a sincere practitioner able to articulate what (s)he wants to try. From what you describe and from the online information I find, I am reminded a bit of polarity therapy. Please don't be put off or impute value judgement in the comparison, I'm just trying to compare it to what I've already personally experienced. Please do say what more you can about being a practice client without compromising a potential candidate.
Re: Perhaps.
Date: 2009-06-11 01:50 am (UTC)No judgment taken; I've experienced polarity, and it's quite extraordinary. This is quite different, though it can look similar.
About being a practice client: we start with one session and see if you're interested in continuing. Sessions will take place at my home, which is currently in Somerville, but will be in Arlington in September. You sign a simple release form before we start; the potential for injury is extremely low. :)
Let me know what else you'd like to know, and perhaps we can go forward. Thanks!
