Apparently there's a reason why Dr. Bronner's Soap bottles have crazy unintelligible religious ravings on them. It's fascinating, actually.

I always thought they were just weird word salad stuff to make the hippie soap funnier. Funny is trendy, you know.

The first time I saw Dr. Bronner's packaging was a bit of culture shock for me... I always just assumed he was a fruitloop :)

Today's dose of surreal was brought to me by... you! :)

Fascinating.

I am stunned to find out the depths of non-infamy to which the good Dr. has sunk… I wonder, now that they're printing directly on the bottles, if you can still order a stack of labels for the reading joy… probably, though they're likely just the bar soap labels…

Whoah! I always knew Dr. Bronner was real, and these ravings represented his views... but I had managed to completely fail to know that he's in Escondido, CA ... where I just was this weekend for the first time. I wish I'd known we were in the home of Dr. Bronner! Dr. Bronner actually died about ten years ago, but I just checked, and indeed the soap company is still in Escondido. I'd have visited it if I'd know. d'oh.

Actually, I met him and one of his sons (I think) at Expo East. He's about as crazy as he appears on the bottles. Fun, but crazy. Damn fine soapmaker, but crazy.

* jaw drops *

I'm sorry. Lemons and Vaseline? A) ew. B) Petroleum product - how does that fit in with his "eco" cred? C) Ew.

I remember reading a series of books called, "Big/Bigger/Biggest Secrets"; they were full of "the real recipe for Coca-Cola" type of stuff but one included a bit on Dr. Bronner, including an interview with the good Dr. Yup, he really believed what he wrote!

Star of stage and screen...

Well, screen anyway, the documentary film Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox is entirely worth seeing....

Dang.

I want to write crazed, hyphenated tirades of optimism too. Unfortunately, I'm too hung up on grammatical purity.

...but I still love the soap. I brought some with me to Europe and that kept me clean and tingly.
