The Back Bay Chorale performs on March 15 at 8pm at Emmanuel Church, Boston. This cycle: 20th Century French composers! I really think this is going to be a stunning concert; I hope you'll join us.

Tickets here!

Join the chorale as we explore the passion, warmth and spiritual ardor of some of the best known composers of the 20th Century. Our concert features work by the great French composers Martin, Messiaen, Poulenc and Duruflé. Spend an evening with us that will make the winter vanish, and help you discover the rich, passionate inner life that drove these composers to create.

The centerpiece of the concert is Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choirs, composed in 1922 but withheld by the self-critical composer until 1963. Austere one moment and incandescently glorious the next, it is acclaimed as one of the greatest a capella works of the 20th century.

We are also featuring Olivier Messiaen, whose contributions are sensuous, luxurious and intimate. The BBC will explore his work through his affirming ‘O Sacrum Convivium’ and selections from his song cycle ‘Poemes pour Mi’, performed by Soprano Soloist Shannon Salyards and Pianist Henry Weinberger

We round out our French- speaking composers' presentation with some work by Poulenc and Duruflé, two other towering contributors to music of the early 20th Century.

Music Director Scott Allen Jarrett will take you inside the minds of these composers at our pre-concert lecture at 7PM. Go to our website at www.bbcboston.org for more details. Don't miss an opportunity to hear this heartwarming music in one of the most musically influential churches in Boston!
