Calling singers!
Jul. 6th, 2006 12:59 pmHey, LJ,
So,
rule30 and I managed to get the Howling Fantods off the ground to a certain extent, but we need more members to really make it work! We're holding open rehearsals over the next little while. See the text below for details! Also - please pass this on to folks you think would be interested!

Budding a cappella group seeks more members
We are: The Howling Fantods, a co-ed, mixed-voice a capella group interested in jazz standards, strange pop arrangements, lush harmonies and extreme silliness. We are also brand new, contain sevenish singers of varying levels of experience, and are looking to add singers (particularly sopranos and tenors, but all voice parts are welcome) who have some sight-reading skills, good tuning, and are confident singing on a part alone against other parts.
At the moment, we are so small that any new members would be instrumental in building the group, rather than joining a strong existing ensemble. We're looking to add more talent, balance, and confidence to the mix, as well as get a good mix of personalities going.
We do this mainly for fun, with the goal of performing on occasion at large social gatherings and perhaps on unsuspecting street corners. However, a certain level of commitment is appreciated - please try to make most rehearsals.
AUDITION INFO:
We rehearse Wednesdays from 7-9:30 in Somerville. We will have open rehearsals starting on Wednesday, July 19 and continuing on subsequent Wednesdays until we have a balance we're happy with. If you are interested in joining, please email Jenny at jenny_rooke@yahoo.com to get location information.
SERIOUS PLUSSES: If you are a competent keyboard player, can sight sing very well, can arrange music and/or have access to a good music library, these are excellent bonuses!
So,

Date: 2006-07-06 05:17 pm (UTC)I'm mighty tempted, but would have to miss 1 rehearsal a month due to a standing Wednesday commitment, and it's been a mighty long time since I sight-read or sang with a group that cared if it was in tune...

Date: 2006-07-06 07:46 pm (UTC)Credentials: 14+ years studying classical and jazz piano, and playing keyboard in a number of really average rock bands (and one really stellar R&B band). Experienced baritone (qualified for a number of regional and state choruses in my high school days), and can definitely sight-read.

Date: 2006-07-07 03:30 am (UTC)Credentials: I'm tenorish, with at least a 3/4 octave range, sang with the Gibbons Elementary Acapella choir (We beat the 3rd graders) sing off-key no more than 1/2 the time, and I'm really loud. I can't sight-read music and I can't play anything....;)
