Hey folks,

So, encouraged by [livejournal.com profile] fanw, I went to see an excellent voice teacher at Brandeis yesterday. She showed me wonderful things and put me on the road to fixing all kinds of bad habits I'd been harboring, and also complimented my voice greatly and said I should start a caberet group.

Now, one of my favorite fantasies has always been to be a jazz singer in a slinky gown at a smoky nightclub. The smoky part is out of the question in this town, but at least there could be sexy martini drinks.

Question is: anybody interested in playing?

[livejournal.com profile] annacallahan, you might know some resources for this. It's not like I want to become a professional musician or anything, but getting a little combo together and doing an open mike night here and there or getting some small-time bookings would be a total dream come true for me.

Translation: dilletantes more than welcome.

A few months ago, I went to a musical set in a cabaret, called Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens. It was awesome.

As an alternative you might try the Acton Jazz Cafe. On a certain night (I forget which night of the week) they have essentially open mike. There's a jazz combo there all night and singers (or the occasional instrumentalist) comes up, says what song they want to sing and in what key, and they're off! Personally I've always wanted to do this myself. If you ever want to try it out, let me know. A* has played there a number of times both on their open jam nights and on their regular nights, so she should know more.

P.S. Please ignore the bad grammar in the previous entry.

Oh, and glad you liked Pam! She actually has some really good advice!

the image of you in a slinky gown w/ martini, languid upon a piano flickers through my head...followed immediately by the image of a horde of fur-clad, torch waving Vikings wreaking havoc about the club, overturning chairs, smashing bottles, laying about with swords and setting everything on fire.

I've been fairly itching to get back to the piano ever since I graduated. I have a pretty hefty supply of George Shearing AND George Gershwin in my repertoire (and I think I even have some Andre Previn in there somewhere). Can we do business? Let me know.

Oo, what a sexy duo we'd make!

Where and when? ;)

Alas I'm no good at playing instruments.

Can I be in the audience?

i can't sing, but that sounds like fabulous material for a photo shoot- do you by any chance own a slinky dress and have access to a nice glossy piano?

I used to play trombone, but I've probably lost my lip by now.

How about if I play Bogart in my white suit, filling the drinks and keeping a sharp eye on the receipts while you sing?
