Last night was an absolute thrill. On Thursday we had sold just over 400 tickets; on Saturday we nearly filled the Sanders, going over 800. The concert was electrifying, although I could not quite decode the strange looks that Scott kept giving us. It was hard to tell, most of the time, whether he was overcome with emotion, nervous to be riding along on this monumental score, or just pissed that we just got something wrong. I for one couldn't tell if we did or not: from where I was standing, it was nearly impossible to hear much else besides the orchestra. By the end, though, I was exhausted, and felt light-headed during the second iteration of the Osanna.

Probably the most rewarding moment came at the end, when the soloists received a partial standing ovation, and most of the remainder of the audience saved their loudest cheers and standing for when the chorus was acknowledged. I felt myself glowing like a light bulb, and that energy carried me through the rest of a delightful evening at Christopher's with [livejournal.com profile] imlad and chorus friends.

There's something about making it through a very difficult and perfectly constructed work of music that is like nothing else for me. I'm so glad that I've come back to this, and am doing it with such an incredibly talented group of singers and instrumentalists.
