The sun has already passed its zenith, but the limbs of the monster are slow, its bones aching with long sleep. Blood oozes from it, mucosal and thick, pumping from its contracting core. From somewhere in the shadows a moan issues, the sound crackling and broken as a bonesaw. If it has a throat, it’s a raw opening, sanguine, needled, prickling heat.
First a foot, then a hand. The naked being rises like a long-sunken ship.
