Today I got into my building at 8:45, bought a toasted bagel with butter, and rode the elevator to the office. My supervisor eventually popped out into the reception area and, elated, said, "You're here!"

So gratifying.

Thanks to all of you for the tips; I am going to do my best to keep them in practice. I laid out my clothes last night (which I do sometimes, but inconsistently), left the shades open while we slept so that the sun would wake me up, went to sleep before midnight, and set a goal to catch the 7:55 bus rather than the 8:12 one. (And caught it!) My future goal (someone spoke of setting unrealistic, overcorrected goals) is to always try and catch the 7:55, and then even if I miss it, there's no chance I'll miss the 8:12, or even an earlier, different bus across the street.

The best tips, though, were the ones about respect and consideration for others. There was some talk here and in email about how keeping other people's inconvenience, hurt feelings, etc. in mind helps them to be on time as a way of honoring them. As an empathic sort, I can understand that far better than trying to be on time for my own sake.

Meanwhile, I'd forgotten how nice it is to show up with some breathing room, to settle down with my food and get my coffee without having to deal with the phones just yet, to be able to go to the ladies' room and hang up my coat and fill my water bottle and settle in. And such a nice day, too. Grin.

Wish me luck!
